Gardening, Cookery and Craft Show
Village Shows originated in the 19th century to encourage horticultural ability. During both World Wars, they played a crucial role in promoting self-sufficiency and encouraging residents to grow their own food.
The first show in Britain was held in Taunton in 1831.
We will be celebrating these early shows with our traditional classes.

3 onions, roots removed and necks folded over and tied.

Make a Victoria Sponge with raspberry jam and dust the top with caster sugar. No cream!

Children's Classes

Under 5 years – Decorate a digestive biscuit OR do a drawing in crayon of your pet.

5-11 years – Make a creature out of vegetables OR decorate a stone/pebble
-
12-16 years – Make a robot model out of recycled material
All other categories will be judged and the Judge's decision is final.
No pre-registration required, just bring your entries to the Hall at the times stated above.
No Exhibitor may have more than 1 entry per class.
Classes A-E are open to everyone including children.
A child’s age will be considered when judging.
All children’s entries receive prizes.
Judge's Hints
Judges focus on uniformity, quality and preparation when judging these classes.
So, a few hints may help you pick up those few extra points!

Uniformity means looking to try and match size, shape and colour when asked for 3 of the same variety.

Tomatoes should have their calyces on and be free from cracks and blemishes.

Carrots should have their tops trimmed and courgettes should be around 15cm long and uniform in colour. They can be shown with or without their flowers.

Soft fruits are best if not under ripe or over ripe.

Strawberries and Raspberries should have their calyces attached.
-
Currants can be cut with scissors to preserve the stalks and display in bunches.

Flowers are best if unblemished, with all florets intact.
