JUDGE'S HINTS

Judges focus on uniformity, quality and preparation when judging these classes. So, a few hints may help you pick up those few extra points!

  • Uniformity means looking to try and match size, shape and colour when asked for 3 of the same variety.

  • Tomatoes should have their calyces on and be free from cracks and blemishes.

  • Carrots should have their tops trimmed and courgettes should be around 15cm long and uniform in colour. They can be shown with or without their flowers.

  • Soft fruits are best if not under ripe or over ripe.

  • Strawberries and Raspberries should have their calyces attached.

  • Currants can be cut with scissors to preserve the stalks and display in bunches.

  • Flowers are best if unblemished, with all florets intact.
